Florida’s federal government has awarded the Palm Beach County Schools a $1mil grant to improve their two core mental health programs. The funds will help expand Teen Mental Health First Aid and Safe Schools Ambassadors- programs that highlight the importance of acknowledging and addressing mental illness. The Palm Beach Post reported more than 3,000 of the district’s students have been referred for mental health support since the start of this year. Sierra Osborne has more to report.

Now considered endangered, millions of Monarch Butterflies have been killed by a parasite feeding off a plant not normally found in our tropical climate. These migratory creatures could go extinct if left unprotected.

On August 29, a report came out that South Florida had six beaches under a “health advisory watch” due to unsafe levels of Enterococci, a harmful bacterium. Beaches are being closed in the summertime, making South Florida residents find other beaches
that are safe to swim in.
